Decontamination corridors are the controlled transition between contaminated areas and clean zones, and their main job is to remove or reduce any hazardous substances from people or equipment as they move out of the hot zone. By passing through this area, victims and gear go through washing, PPE doffing, and any required disposal steps so that what exits is substantially less contaminated and less likely to spread the hazard. This protects responders and the public as the incident scene transitions from hot to safe. The other ideas don’t fit because they would either expose responders, fail to control contamination, or mishandle PPE and drainage; the corridor’s purpose is to decontaminate before items or people re-enter safe areas.
